Tottenham returned to Top 4
Tottenham recorded a second consecutive win in the Premier League, after having overtaken Brighton by 2-0. The Spurs did not show the spectacular soccer with Stoke City at the weekend when they scored 5 goals, but the goals of Serge Orie and Son Hyun-Min were enough for the three points that Liverpool and Burnley had made to climb in 4th place in the standings.
Newcomer Brighton started the season optimistically and achieved some surprising results, but after the defeat of Wembley is now getting closer to the relegation zone. Chris Houghton’s team scored just one goal in their last 5 games and took 13th but the 19th West Ham is just three points.
Eric Lamela came to Tottenham for the first time in more than a year, a period in which the Argentine was tortured. He replaced Dele Ali and definitely showed he was craving for football, and some of his combinations with Christian Eriksson and Harry Kane were wildly acclaimed by fans.
Although he had the initiative, Mauriceio Pocetino’s team did not create much at all until the break, and Hugo Loris had to intervene decisively after Shane Duffy’s head in the 35th minute. A little later, however, attempting to center Oriel turned into a treacherous blow that transferred Matthew Ryan and the ball flopped into the guests’ net. Harry Kane’s pass at the beginning of the second part could be expensive for Tottenham because in the next few minutes Brighton had a chance to equalize. The closest thing to this was Tom Hemed, but this time Loris demonstrated the class.
In the 84th minute, Kane hit the beam but the next static position brought a second goal for the Londoners. Eriksen was centering, and Korean Son Hun-Ming plunged into the nearby beam and headed the final 2-0. For former Bayer (Leverkusen), this was a goal in the fourth consecutive match.
