Successful start for Borussia’s new coach
After eight games without a win, Borussia (Dortmund) finally broke off in a defeat in the Bundesliga. This happened in the debut of the new senior coach Peter Schooger, who replaced the boss Peter Boss a few days ago. The “yellow and black” made a 2: 0 lead on Mainz 05 and at least temporarily returned to the top 4 of the standings.
Borussia’s previous success was 2: 1 as a guest at Augsburg at the end of September. There was a series of negative results both in the championship and in the Champions League where the team dropped out of the group without a single win.
Sokratis Papastatopoulos and Shinji Kagawa scored the goals for Dortmunds, who for the first time in the 5th round did not hit the goal. Mainz stayed 1 point from his last 4 games and is just above the relegation zone.
The first half was difficult for Borussia. Söhger bet on four in defense, instead of Boston’s three-course scheme. but the team was under great strain and difficult to reach in the wild. The hosts were more reluctant and failed to lead through Swat Serdar and Abdu Dialo.
After the soils the “yellow-blacks” dominated and deservedly grabbed the three points. Pierre-Emerich Obamayang could not use Julian Weigle’s great pass, and Christian Pulišic also missed. In the 55th minute, Kagawa centered on a foul, Yomer Taperka hit the bar, but the ball fell to Sokratis’ leg and the Greek did not go wrong. Mainz responded, and Alexandre hacked Roman Buchky’s head, but the Swiss watchman was careful. Dialo shot in the beam a little later, but that was one of the few tense situations in front of Borussia’s door. Kagawa got a chance to close the match after handing Yarmollenko, but fired straight into Robin Zentner’s hand. The Japanese corrected his target in the 89th minute when, in his attempt to shoot, Obamayang handed him over and Kaga formed the final result.
