Olympics Marseille stepped off
Olympique Marseille’s team was crouching in the battle for the second place in French League 1 after finishing 2-2 at the visit of St. Etienne in the first round of the 25th round.
The guests twice led the result, but eventually missed the victory, which may cost them at the end of the season. Currently the leader is PSG with 62 points and less match. In third position is Monaco with 50 points and less than Marseille, which is second with 52. Fourth is Lyon with 48, these three teams will fight for the second position in the final standings, because PSG realistically is unattainable at the top.
The Marseilles raised their fans’ expectations high after two loud defeats in the league with 6: 3 over Metz and 9: 0 for the French Cup over FC Burg Perona.
The guests opened in the 4th minute when Florian Taven was scored after Hiroki Sakai. In the 9th minute, however, the hosts were flat after Romen Amouma scored to the left and with a parallel pass found Jonathan Bamba, who dropped the ball to Kevin Mone-Pake and he managed to overcome the Marseilles guard. Only eleven minutes later, the guests were again led by Morgan Sanson being scored. The result stayed until the 74th minute when Robert Berich equalized and brought the point for his team.
Olympiacos Marseille, in addition to two points, lost and his title guard, Steve Mandanda, who was injured at the end of the first part and was replaced by John Pele.
