A local legend is headed Malta team

Ray Zazu Farudja will be Malta’s new national football coach, announced the president of the federation Norman Darmanin Demejo. The decision was taken by open vote at a board meeting of the Federation.

He is the first Maltiez to take over the team for 6 years. In Malta, traditionally, they are betting to foreigners to bring the team’s experience and image. Now, however, they have stopped at Farudja, who has long been the coach of the youth team, as well as an assistant to the Italian Pietro Gedin and to Tom Seinfeld (Belgium).

The first test for the new coach will be at the end of this month when Malta goes to a short camp in Austria and will play control meetings with Armenia and Georgia.

The official debut of the 62-year-old former striker headed by Malta is in the League of Nations tournament in September. The Maltese players run against the Faroe Islands and the other two teams in their group are Azerbaijan and Kosovo.
